A Note on Edge Fest: In 2015, our love for live theatre and playwriting culminated into opening Birdhouse Theatre with nothing more than passion and hope. In 2016, we started Edge Fest, a ten-minute play contest that would lead to 8 chosen plays and their full production. By 2019 we were receiving hundreds of submissions from all over the world. It was amazing, but it was also A LOT of work. We tried to forge ahead in 2020, but ultimately understood the severity of Covid and made the difficult decision to cancel the event. Then in 2021, we had to postpone due to the resurgence of Covid. Since then, we have explored all possibilities to mount the 8 selected plays of 2021, but sadly cannot make it work. The original cast members we had access to are no longer available. Many of our volunteers have moved away. Other upcoming performances we have committed to and/or we do not want to compete with have left our calendar without any realistic possible performance dates. So, it is with a very heavy heart we announce we will not producing the 2021 Edge Fest selected eight plays and furthermore, will no longer be continuing with Edge Fest in the near future. This was not an easy decision. Between our egos and passion for theatre, we are saddened and sick to admit this is best for the future of Birdhouse Theatre and our personal health. Thank you to anyone and everyone that has ever helped us along with acting, painting, set building, costuming, sound engineering, lighting, ticketing, playbill folding, chair stacking, prop building, and, of course, our audience members. It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sincerely, Iona & Jimmy
